The Trinamool Congress has suffered a major setback in the West Bengal Assembly election results. Of the 35 ministers in the outgoing government, 22 have lost their seats—around 63 percent of the cabinet.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also among those defeated. She lost the Bhabanipur seat in Kolkata, a constituency considered politically significant for the party.
Several key ministers handling major portfolios were also defeated. These include leaders responsible for housing, power, education, industries, transport, women and child welfare, and backward class development.
Political analysts say the outcome points to a significant political shift in the state. Early trends suggest strong momentum in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which appears to have impacted even the top leadership of the Trinamool Congress.
Among the defeated ministers are Arup Biswas, Bratya Basu, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Shashi Panja, Sujit Basu, Indranil Sen, Becharam Manna, Swapan Debnath, Bulu Chik Baraik, Pradeep Majumdar, Birbaha Hansda, Manas Bhuiyan, Malay Ghatak, Siddiqullah Chowdhury, Udayan Guha, Sandhyarani Tudu, Bankim Hazra, Ujjwal Biswas, Snehashis Chakraborty, Srikant Mahato and Satyajit Burman.
