Compensation checks were distributed Monday to landowners affected by the Betgram–Tala–Paikgachha–Koyra Road Improvement Project, part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the regional road network.

The check distribution ceremony was held at the Paikgachha Upazila Parishad auditorium and was jointly organized by the Khulna District Administration and the Upazila Administration.

The event was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Abdullah Harun attended as the chief guest and handed over compensation checks totaling 94,803,348.30 Bangladeshi taka to 11 landowners whose properties were acquired for the project.

Among those present were Khulna Land Acquisition Branch Officer Md. Ariful Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Fazle Rabbi, journalist S.M. Alauddin Sohag, Abul Hashem, and other affected landowners.

Speaking at the event, Abdullah Harun said the road project is expected to significantly improve transportation and connectivity across the region.

He added that the district administration is directly overseeing the compensation process to ensure that affected landowners receive their payments promptly and without unnecessary delays or interference from intermediaries.

Officials said the compensation is being provided in accordance with government regulations for land acquired to implement the Betgram–Tala–Paikgachha–Koyra Road Improvement Project.

Monday's distribution marked the latest phase of the compensation process, with 11 eligible landowners receiving payments for their acquired land.
