The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has collected Tk 1.9827 billion (Tk 198.27 crore) in holding tax from the Chattogram Port Authority, marking one of the largest single tax collections in the corporation's history.
The holding tax payment was formally handed over to CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain during a ceremony at the corporation's conference hall in Tigerpass on Monday afternoon. Officials from the Chattogram Port Authority attended the event and presented the payment.
According to CCC officials, the revenue was recovered through sustained administrative efforts, negotiations, and initiatives to collect long-outstanding taxes.
City officials said the additional revenue is expected to strengthen the corporation's financial capacity and support a range of civic development projects, including infrastructure upgrades, public services, sanitation, road improvements, and measures to address waterlogging.
The payment is being regarded as one of the largest tax recoveries in the history of the Chattogram City Corporation.
Officials also said the collection reflects the city administration's broader efforts to improve revenue generation and strengthen financial management since Mayor Shahadat Hossain assumed office.
