Police have arrested a grocery shop owner with 30 yaba tablets during an anti-drug operation in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail.
The arrested man is Hasmat Ali, 44, a resident of Kendua village in Birtara Union. Police said he was apprehended from the Kendua Bazar area on Sunday (September 13), in front of the main gate of the Birtara Union Parishad.
Dhanbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurus Salam Siddique said that, acting on a tip-off, Sub-Inspector Adnan Rahman and a police team conducted the operation and arrested Hasmat Ali with 30 yaba tablets.
The seized tablets are estimated to be worth around Tk 9,000, according to police.
Police said Hasmat had allegedly been involved in drug dealing for a long time while operating a grocery business near the main gate of the Birtara Union Parishad.
After completion of legal procedures, Hasmat Ali was sent to Tangail District Jail on Monday (September 14).
The Dhanbari police said anti-drug operations will continue regularly across the upazila as part of efforts to curb drug-related activities.
