Police have arrested three people, including a woman’s husband and brother-in-law, in a cyber law case filed over allegedly editing a young woman’s photograph and circulating it obscenely on Facebook in Syedpur, Nilphamari.
The arrested individuals are Sujon Mia, 25, younger son of Kamal Hossain; Shakir Rana, 30, Kamal Hossain’s elder son; and Mahima Islam Shammi, 25, Shakir Rana’s wife. All three were arrested from their respective residence in the Sahebpara Lichubagan area of Syedpur town on Monday (September 14).
Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim confirmed the arrests and said the accused were sent to jail the same day.
According to the victim and the case statement, the man who later became the complainant had allegedly been courting the young woman for a long time. He subsequently persuaded her in various ways and secretly married her.
After the woman’s family learned about the marriage, efforts were made to resolve the matter within the family. As part of those efforts, members of Sujon’s family went to the woman’s house to see her and took photographs of her.
The accused later allegedly edited those photographs and circulated them in an obscene manner on Facebook.
The woman subsequently filed a cyber law case with the police station over the incident.
OC Rezaul Karim said the three accused had been arrested and sent to jail.
