The Bangladesh government has approved the purchase of six additional cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the country’s growing energy demand.
Three proposals related to the purchases were approved at the 44th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held on Sunday. The information was disclosed in a press release on Monday (September 14).
According to a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, two LNG cargoes will be purchased through the international request-for-quotation (RFQ) process. One cargo is scheduled for delivery on October 9-10 and the other on October 27-28, 2026.
The proposed prices for the two cargoes are $28.95 and $29.795 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), respectively.
UK-based TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd offered $28.95 per MMBtu for the 52nd cargo, while Singapore-based Vitol Asia Pte Ltd quoted $29.795 per MMBtu for the 56th cargo.
The committee also approved the purchase of two cargoes directly from US-based Darab Inc. at $17 per MMBtu. Another two cargoes will be purchased through the same method from US-based Mind Mingle LLC at $19 per MMBtu.
All three proposals concerning LNG procurement by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division were approved at the 44th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held this year.
