Narail Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam has called on guardians to pay attention to their children's behaviour, character and mental health is not just academic performance.
"Children should be guided onto the right path through love and reason, not fear" he said. "A conscious student today becomes a responsible citizen tomorrow." He was speaking at a guardians' gathering held Monday afternoon at Shaheed Ekhlach Uddin Ahmed Secondary School in Kalia, Narail.
Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Jinnatul Islam presided over the event, attended by Academic Supervisor M.M. Sarafat Hossain, headmaster Alok Kumar Das along with teachers, staff, guardians and students.
Speakers stressed the importance of morality, discipline and human values alongside academic studies also urging parents to stay involved in their children's daily routines and schoolwork.
The district administration distributed dictionaries to students with strong academic results and provided sports equipment to the school. Under the government's "One Child, One Tree" initiative to build a greener Bangladesh, every student received a tree sapling.
The Deputy Commissioner later planted a sapling on the school grounds and encouraged students to care for trees and protect the environment.
