Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo has called for the establishment of an Institute of Health Technology (IHT) alongside a nursing college in Lakshmipur to improve the quality of healthcare services in the district.
He said an IHT would help improve not only hospital services but also the quality of diagnostic reports available to patients. Of the 1,000 sanctioned posts in Lakshmipur’s health sector, around 500 are currently vacant, according to information presented at the meeting.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at an exchange meeting held at the Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room at 11am on Monday (September 15). The meeting discussed law and order, controlling corruption and drugs, good governance, transparency, accountability, public welfare and development activities.
“Over the past 17 years, there has not been much development work in this district. I will coordinate efforts for Lakshmipur’s development. I will work in coordination with the four MPs for the development of Lakshmipur,” Abdul Awal Mintoo said.
He stressed the need to establish an IHT alongside a nursing college to strengthen healthcare services in the district. According to him, expanding healthcare institutions and modern services would help reduce difficulties faced by local residents and ensure better diagnostic services.
Lakshmipur-2 MP Abul Khayer Bhuiyan and Lakshmipur-1 MP Shahadat Hossain Selim attended the meeting as special guests. Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan chaired the event.
The meeting also reviewed the overall law-and-order situation in the district, drug control, prevention of corruption, improvement of public services, transparency and accountability, and ongoing development projects.
Participants emphasised making government offices more efficient and coordinated and ensuring that public services reach people at their doorstep. Officials were also urged to work together to combat drugs and corruption and maintain normal law-and-order conditions.
Officials from the district administration and representatives of various government departments attended the meeting.
