


A Chattogram court has sentenced Mohammad Nazrul Islam alias Mithu to life imprisonment with hard labour for raping and killing a 17-year-old girl in Hathazari and concealing her body in a toilet tank.
Judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman of Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 delivered the verdict on Tuesday (September 15).
According to Public Prosecutor Advocate Mahmud-ul Alam Chowdhury Maruf, the court found Nazrul guilty under Section 9(2) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour and fined Tk 100,000.
The court ordered that the fine, if realised, be paid as compensation to the victims father, Mohammad Chhott Mia alias Chuttu Mia, in accordance with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The court also ordered that the convict be sent to jail with the warrant of sentence.
According to case documents, the 17-year-old girl went missing on the evening of October 13, 2018, while visiting her aunts house in Mirzapur, Hathazari.
Three days later, on October 17, her body was recovered from a toilet tank beside a pond to the east of Danu Mia Brick Field. Family members identified her from the clothes she was wearing.
The victims father subsequently filed a case with Hathazari Police Station. After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against Nazrul Islam.
