The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has launched the 2025–26 agricultural incentive program in Morelganj, Bagerhat, distributing free seeds, fertilizers, and tree saplings to small and marginal farmers ahead of the kharif growing season.
The inauguration ceremony was held Monday at the Morelganj Upazila Complex under the theme, "Agriculture is Prosperity." The program aims to increase the cultivation and production of high-yielding transplanted Aman rice while supporting agricultural rehabilitation and promoting environmental sustainability through tree planting.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah officially inaugurated the initiative as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Habibullah said the government's timely agricultural incentives are expected to strengthen the rural economy, while the tree-planting campaign will help address the challenges posed by climate change.
Several local government officials attended the ceremony, including Assistant Commissioner (Land) Atish Sarkar, Fisheries Officer Ranjit Kumar, Upazila Engineer Md. Ariful Islam, Social Services Officer Gautam Kumar Biswas, Women Affairs Officer Romendra Nath Biswas, ICT Officer Tridip Sarkar, and local journalists.
According to Saiful Islam, the incentives will be distributed to 3,220 eligible small and marginal farmers across the upazila as quickly as possible.
He said agriculture remains a key driver of Bangladesh's economy and expressed hope that farmers would use the support effectively to improve their livelihoods while contributing to the country's agricultural growth and food security.
