A workshop sharing the outcomes of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Risk Reduction Action Plan (DRR-RRAP) project was held on Monday, April 27, at the Officers Club Auditorium in Paikgachha, Khulna.
Funded by the Government of Japan, the project is implemented by the Union Disaster Management Committee. Technical and logistical support is provided by the World Food Program (WFP), the Department of Disaster Management, Upazila Administration, LGED, and the Bangladesh Water Development Board, with the NGO Sushilon acting as the implementation partner.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury chaired the session. Key attendees included Upazila Engineer Shafin Shoaib, WFP Khulna Sub-Office Head Al Mamun Azad, Sushilon Director Sachchidananda Biswas, and various local government representatives.
Speakers highlighted a shift from traditional manual labor to mechanized implementation, noting that modern methods have made infrastructure more durable and sustainable. They emphasized that proper coordination between stakeholders has significantly bolstered the disaster resilience of vulnerable communities. Given the success in Soladana and Garikhali unions—where several roads were recently developed—officials called for the project to be expanded to other disaster-prone areas within the upazila.
