Panic has gripped Raozan Upazila following the murder of another Jubo Dal activist, marking the second fatal shooting in the area within 24 hours. The victim, Nasir Uddin (45), was shot by unidentified miscreants late Sunday night and died while being rushed to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
The attack occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday near the Ashrayan project in Dakshin Shamsher Para, Kadalpur Union. According to witnesses, miscreants opened fire indiscriminately, hitting Nasir in the chest, abdomen, and legs.
Locals rushed to the scene after hearing gunshots and found Nasir in a pool of blood. He was initially taken to Raozan Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Sajjad Hossain, the on-duty physician, noted that the victim’s injuries were severe, with multiple gunshot wounds to the lower abdomen. Nasir succumbed to his injuries around midnight while being transferred to CMC Hospital.
Nasir Uddin, son of the late Dudu Mia, was a local supporter of Jubo Dal. While he held no official post, he was an active participant in party programs. However, police records indicate a more complex background; Nasir had six criminal cases against him, including murder charges.
Local sources suggest the killing is a fallout of a long-standing turf war. Since the fall of the Awami League government, two rival groups—the Raihan Group and the Jane Alam Group—have been locked in a violent struggle for dominance over illegal hill cutting, land trade, and extortion in Kadalpur. Nasir was reportedly a member of the Raihan Group and had survived a previous assassination attempt in November 2024.
This latest killing follows the shooting death of another youth, Muhammad Kausar Uz Zaman Bablu, in Raozan Municipality just a day earlier.
Sajedul Islam Palash, Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station, confirmed the death. "Police have visited the scene and an investigation is underway to identify the attackers and the motive behind the killing," he stated.
