A local Jubo Dal activist was hacked to death by unidentified attackers on Saturday night in Nalchiti Upazila, with his body subsequently dumped in a pond.

The victim, 28-year-old Aminul Islam Babu, was a dedicated worker for the Nachanmahal Union unit of Jubo Dal (the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party). He was the son of Alamgir Talukdar from the Kuralia area.

According to the police and local residents, the assailants targeted Babu on Saturday night, inflicting fatal wounds with sharp weapons. In an apparent attempt to conceal the crime, the perpetrators threw his body into a nearby pond in Nachanmahal village before fleeing the scene.

On Sunday afternoon, villagers spotted the body floating in the water and alerted local authorities. A team from the Nalchiti Police Station quickly recovered the body and sent it to the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Nalchiti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ariful Alam confirmed the murder. He stated that a rigorous investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killing, and a special police operation has been launched to identify and arrest everyone involved.
