As part of the Prime Minister’s national development commitments, a 4-kilometer canal excavation project was inaugurated today in Dhania Union of Bhola Sadar Upazila. The project stretches from Kanainagar Andhir Canal to the Meghna River sluice gate.
Bhola Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Shamim Rahman officially launched the program on Monday morning.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner noted that the excavation is being funded under the Employment Generation Program for the Extremely Poor (EGPP) for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
"This initiative serves a dual purpose," Dr. Rahman stated. "It creates immediate jobs for our most vulnerable citizens while building essential infrastructure. Improved drainage and water management will directly increase local agricultural yields."
The DC urged project supervisors to ensure high-quality standards and timely completion. The event was attended by Bhola Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Arifuzzaman, officials from the Disaster Management Department, and local representatives.
