A college student detained for allegedly appearing as a proxy candidate for a local BNP women’s leader in the SSC (Open University) examination was released from police custody on Friday night. The release followed a written bond signed by the examination center secretary.
The incident occurred during the Bangla Second Paper exam at Bogura Zilla School. The student, identified as 18-year-old Ishita Akter Tisha, a second-year student at Government Azizul Haque College, was reportedly sitting in for Nipa Khatun. Nipa is the Joint General Secretary of Bogura City Mohila Dal and President of Ward No. 4 Mohila Dal.
According to center sources, the invigilator in Room 201 became suspicious when the student’s face did not match the photograph on the admit card. Upon questioning, Ishita reportedly confessed to the substitution. She was subsequently handed over to the Bogura Sadar Police.
However, the situation took a turn later that night. Ibrahim Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station, confirmed that Md. Anwar Hossain, the Center Secretary and Headmaster of Bogura Zilla School, took responsibility for the student and secured her release via a legal bond.
While authorities handled the proxy allegation, Nipa Khatun denied the charges. She claimed she had briefly left her niece in the hall while she visited Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, maintaining that she was the legitimate examinee.
The incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking a heated debate among local citizens regarding academic integrity, political influence, and the legal grounds for releasing a suspect caught in the act of examination fraud.
