The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Bangladesh Police is investigating intelligence reports of potential militant attacks on sensitive state installations, including the National Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban).
Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday (25 April), CTTC Joint Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin confirmed that cyber intelligence teams are currently verifying the threats.
"We have received this information, and our cyber intelligence is working on it," the Joint Commissioner stated. While he declined to name any specific group behind the threat, he urged the public not to panic, adding, "We are working, and we are prepared to face it."
Heightened Security Alert
The briefing follows a formal intelligence alert issued by Police Headquarters last Thursday (23 April). The alert warned that members of a banned militant organization might be planning coordinated strikes on Government Buildings: Including the Parliament and military installations. Public Spaces: Places of worship and entertainment venues. Infrastructure: Other critical state assets.
When questioned about specific security measures at these locations, the Joint Commissioner noted that security planning remains confidential. He also declined to comment on whether any suspects had been identified or if any members of the armed forces had been detained, stating that it was too early in the investigation to provide details.
Addressing "Staged" Militancy Claims
Replying to questions regarding previous claims by former DMP officials that militancy in the country was "staged," Shahabuddin took a neutral stance. "We are working on it. If we find them [militants], we will definitely take action," he said.
Police units across the country have been instructed to maintain heightened surveillance and implement strict security protocols until further notice.
