


Police have arrested a woman for allegedly killing her three-month-old daughter by strangling her with a towel in Narail Sadar Upazila on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:30 am in Alukdia village, under Shahabad Union. The deceased infant has been identified as Tabassum.
According to police and family members, the suspect, Arifa Khatun, married Kuwaiti expatriate Manik Molya approximately 18 months ago. Arifa had been staying at her father’s house in Alukdia with the baby for the past month.
Tragedy struck on Thursday morning when news surfaced that the infant had been killed. Upon arrival, police recovered the body and noted marks on the child's neck.
"My brother called from Kuwait yesterday saying they were coming home today," said Shamim Molya, the child's uncle. "But this morning, he called to say my niece had been killed. When I arrived, I saw the marks on her neck."
Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Oli Mia confirmed the arrest. Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Kamruzzaman stated that the body has been sent to Narail District Hospital for an autopsy.
"The mother is currently in custody for questioning," Kamruzzaman added. "Legal action will follow a thorough investigation."
