In a desperate move, a father in Naogaon handed over his drug-addicted son to a mobile court on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Nonahar Paschimpara village under Chhaor Union of Porsha Upazila.
The Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate, Rakibul Islam, sentenced 34-year-old Parvez to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of 500 BDT.
According to mobile court sources, Parvez, son of Mahmudul Nabi, had been addicted to drugs for a long time. He frequently consumed illegal substances, behaved aggressively toward family members and neighbors, and disrupted public peace.
Exhausted by his son’s behavior, Mahmudul Nabi informed the UNO on Wednesday afternoon. UNO Rakibul Islam arrived at the scene and conducted the mobile court. Parvez confessed to his crimes during the proceedings.
"The father, unable to bear his son's abuse anymore, handed him over to the court," said UNO Rakibul Islam. He added that the sentence was handed down under the Narcotics Control Act and the Penal Code. The convict has since been sent to jail.
