


Two tankers carrying 51,000 tons of refined octane and furnace oil arrived at Chattogram port on Wednesday night to bolster the national energy reserve.
The MT Central Star, arriving from Malaysia, is carrying 26,000 tons of octane. According to Port Secretary Syed Refat Hamim, the vessel is currently stationed at the Bravo anchorage.
Simultaneously, the MT Eastern Queens reached the Charlie anchorage with 25,000 tons of furnace oil, also sourced from Malaysia.
Bangladesh maintains an annual fuel demand of approximately 6.5 to 6.8 million tons. While 20% of this is imported as crude oil from the Middle East, the remaining 80% is imported in refined form from countries including Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) estimates April’s diesel demand at 400,000 tons. To meet this, the government plans to import an additional 315,000 tons of diesel within the month.
