


Six day labourers were killed and at least 15 others injured when a passenger bus ploughed into a group of workers on the Bogura-Naogaon highway early today.
The tragedy occurred around 5:30 am at Silkibandha in Erulia, Bogura Sadar upazila. Every morning labourers gather at this roadside spot hoping to find daily wage work.
According to police and witnesses a Dhaka-bound passenger bus travelling to Naogaon lost control struck an electric pole and crashed directly into the waiting crowd. Three workers died at the scene.
Locals police and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rescued the injured rushing them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Hospital officials later confirmed that three more labourers succumbed to their injuries during treatment bringing the death toll to six.
Several victims remain in critical condition raising concerns that the fatality count may climb.
Dupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tajmilur Rahman stated the driver and his assistant fled immediately after the crash. "The bus has been seized, and legal proceedings are underway" Rahman said.
Authorities are currently working to confirm the identities of all the deceased and are actively investigating the cause of the crash.
