


BNP Central Co-Organizing Secretary and State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has said the government remains firm on its zero-tolerance policy against crime and is determined to arrest criminals regardless of political affiliation.
He said the government is working with this commitment to build a new Bangladesh and will continue to uphold the policy in the future.
Mir Helal made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at an Iftar Mahfil organized by Chittagong Metropolitan BNP at the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque ground in Chattogram on Friday (March 6).
The program was held under the chairmanship of City BNP Convener Ershad Ullah MP and moderated by Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman. Leaders and activists from the party, as well as lawyers, teachers, doctors, engineers, journalists and people from various professions from 15 police stations and 41 wards of the metropolis attended the event.
Mir Helal said BNP received a massive public mandate to run the state. “Strict action will be taken against criminals to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. Party identity will not be considered in this regard,” he said.
He added that BNP leaders and activists had fought on the streets during the anti-fascist movement and now it is time to focus on rebuilding the country. He called on all to work together for a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh under the slogan announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Speaking as special guest, Chattogram-9 constituency MP Abu Sufian said people were satisfied with the activities of the new government during its first 16 days in office. “The goal for which the movement was carried out to remove the Awami fascist regime will be achieved under the leadership of Tarique Rahman,” he said.
Presiding over the event, Ershad Ullah MP said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been working tirelessly since taking responsibility for running the state. He expressed hope that party leaders and activists would work together to ensure peace and security for the people.
Former city BNP member secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar said the government has managed to keep the prices of essential commodities and the law and order situation at a tolerable level during Ramadan.
Among others present were Chairman’s Adviser SM Fazlul Haque, South District BNP Convener Idris Mia, City BNP Joint Conveners Mohammad Mia Bhola, M Aziz, Advocate Abdus Sattar, SM Saiful Alam, Syed Azam Uddin, Kazi Belal Uddin, Shafiqur Rahman Swapan, Harun Zaman, Niaz Mohammad Khan, Shah Alam, RU Chowdhury Shahin, Shawkat Azam Khawaja, Yasin Chowdhury Liton, Shihab Uddin Mubin, Manjurul Alam Manju, North District BNP former Joint Convener Engineer Belayet Hossain, Chattogram District Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Hasan Ali and leaders of BNP and its affiliated bodies.
Before the Iftar, special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness for the souls of those who died during the movement.
