


Police have recovered the throat-slit body of transport and sand trader Saiful Islam (40) from Gabtoli upazila of Bogura on Sunday morning.
The deceased, son of Jamal Hossain, was a resident of Sondabari Purba Para near the No. 2 Rail Ghumti area adjacent to Khadija Filling Station. His body was found lying beside the road in front of his house. Locals said unidentified assailants killed him elsewhere and dumped the body at the spot.
Saiful owned seven trucks and earned his livelihood by renting them out and running a sand business. He was the sole earning member of his family, which includes his elderly parents, wife, three daughters, and a son.
Family members said Saiful used to return home every night after work, but he did not come back on Saturday night. They tried to contact him over the phone but failed to reach him. On Sunday morning, locals spotted his throat-slit body near his home and informed police.
Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Muhammad Raihan visited the scene with a police team. The body was later recovered and sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Police official Raihan told journalists that the murder is being investigated with importance. He added that authorities are also probing two other recent killings in the district and expressed hope that suspects would be identified and arrested soon.
Notably, three murders have occurred in Bogura within three days following the national election. Earlier, on February 13, the throat-slit body of a teenager named Alif was recovered from an auto-rickshaw garage, and on February 14, a student political activist named Fahim was stabbed to death in the Matidali intersection area.
