A long-standing dispute over the ownership of a government (khas) pond in Anantapur village, Porsha upazila of Naogaon, turned deadly as a man named Shahjaman (45) was beaten to death. He was the son of Montaj from Anantapur under Nitpur Union.
The clash occurred on Saturday morning when Shahjaman went to release fish fry into the disputed 17-decimal pond (Khatian No. 1, JL No. 215). Members of the rival group allegedly attacked him. When his elder brother, sister-in-law, and nephew tried to intervene, they were also beaten. Multiple people were injured, including Shahjaman, who later died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Following the incident, Shahjaman’s elder brother filed a case with Porsha Police Station naming 14 individuals. Police have since arrested four female suspects: Yasmin (34), Ruma Khatun (26), Saheba (37), and Halima (36), all residents of Anantapur village. They were sent to jail following their arrest.
Porsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mintu Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused.
