The 123rd birth anniversary of the poet Jasimuddin, who earned the title of 'Rural Poet' by highlighting the happiness and sorrows of the people of rural Bengal through many such popular poems, stories, plays and songs, was celebrated on Thursday, January 1, on the banks of the Kumar River in his birthplace, Ambikapur, Faridpur.

On the occasion of the day, floral tributes were paid at the Kabir's tomb in Ambikapur, Faridpur suburb at 10:30 am by the district administration and various organizations including Jasim Foundation, Press Club.

Later, Milad and Doa Mahfil were held there. Present at the time were Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hanar Molla, Superintendent of Police Nazrul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sohrab Hossain, Ramanand Pal, Press Club President Kabirul Islam Siddiqui, Professor MA Samad, Mofiz Imam Milon and others.

He was born on this day in 1903 at his maternal grandfather's house in Tambulkhana village of Koijuri Union in Faridpur suburb. Kabir's father's name was Ansar Uddin Molla. He was a school teacher by profession. Mother Amina Khatun alias Rangachut.

Jasim Uddin studied at Faridpur Welfare School and later at Faridpur District School (now Faridpur District School). From here he passed his entrance examination in 1921. He completed his B.A. and M.A. in Bengali from Calcutta University in 1929 and 1931 respectively.

Poet Jasim Uddin married Mumtaz Begum in 1939. They had 3 sons, Dr. Jamal Anwar, Khurshid Anwar and Anwar Hasu. The immortal creations of the rural poet include, Nakshi Kanthar Math, Sojan Badiyar Ghat, Ek Paisaar Banshi, Rakhali, Baluchar etc. He died on 14 March 1976.
