A severe cold wave has started in Phulbari, Dinajpur. Due to dense fog, the sun has not been visible for seven consecutive days. Due to the cold, the temperature in Dinajpur district and Phulbari upazila dropped to 13.0 degrees Celsius on Saturday (December 20), which is the second lowest temperature in the country.
According to the Dinajpur Meteorological Office, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 9.0 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga and 13.0 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur.
It is known that the temperature started to drop from the afternoon of December 19. The intensity of the cold increased with the cold wind from that night. From the morning of December 20, the surrounding area was covered in dense fog. Since then, sunlight has not been seen until Saturday (December 28). As a result, the feeling of cold is increasing every day.
The most affected by the severe winter are the low-income working people. Children and the elderly are especially suffering. Due to the cold, people's movement on the roads has decreased. This has also reduced the income and livelihood of small traders, including rickshaw drivers.
Meanwhile, as the price of winter clothes has increased, many poor people are trying to escape the cold by burning straw. On the other hand, due to the severe cold and dense fog, farmers are facing problems with their Boro seedbeds. Boro farmers said that they are unable to prepare seedbeds due to the cold and fog. The seedlings are not germinating in the seedbeds where paddy seeds have been sown. Dinajpur Meteorological Observatory Officer Tofazzal Hossain said that the lowest temperature in the district was recorded at 9 am on Saturday (December 28).
Normal life is being disrupted due to the drop in daytime temperatures. People in the daily wage labor class are extremely worried about their families because they are unable to work.
