Despite waterlogging due to heavy rains, Aman paddy yield has been as expected in Paikgachha. However, farmers are disappointed as paddy prices have fallen.

Aman paddy harvesting is in full swing. Paddy harvesting in high fields has been completed. However, paddy harvesting in low and fishery lease areas is underway. Farmers have said that harvesting will be completed in the next 10/15 days.

According to the Upazila Agricultural Extension Department, Aman paddy has been cultivated on 13,330 hectares of land in the upazila in 10 unions and 1 municipality in the upazila this season. The average yield per hectare of harvested paddy is 4.8 metric tons. 70 percent of the paddy has been harvested in the upazila. And 30 percent of the paddy planted in Nabi is still unripe.

Farmer Md. Mizanur Rahman of Hitampur block of Gadaipur union of the upazila said that his field has yielded about 18 maunds per bigha. Farmer Faruk Hossain of Puraikati block and farmer Shafiqul of Tokia block said that despite the adverse weather, the yield of Aman in their fields has been good. Farmer Alauddin of Motbati village said that extra care and use of pesticides have been required due to the late infestation of the field. The amount of lice is also increasing in the paddy in some fields. This has affected the farmers.

Upazila Agriculture Officer and Agriculturist Md. Ekramul Hossain said that the cultivation of Aman in the upazila has been reduced due to excessive rainfall. Aman paddy has been harvested on 70 percent of the land in the upazila, while the remaining 30 percent is being harvested. The yield of the harvested Aman paddy has been good.

Farmer Alauddin of Hitampur block of Gadaipur union of the upazila, farmer Faruk Hossain of Puraikati block and farmer Shafiqul of Tokia block said that despite the hostile weather, the yield of Aman in their fields has been good. Farmer Alauddin of Motbati village said that the paddy cultivated in his field in the fish enclosure has just started flowering. Moreover, extra care and use of pesticides have been required due to the infestation of the Majra insect. The amount of lice is also increasing in the paddy of some fields. This has affected the farmers.
