To preserve the declining rural sports of Bengal, a traditional swimming and duck-catching competition took place on Sunday afternoon at the historic Saral Khan Dighi in Paikgachha upazila.
Organized by the Saral-Bandikati Jubo Sangh, the festive event drew hundreds of enthusiastic locals who gathered around the pond to cheer on the competitors.
Organizers noted that rapid modernization has caused such traditional games to fade from rural life. The event aimed to introduce these heritage sports to the younger generation while providing healthy entertainment to help keep local youth away from drugs. The youth association pledged to continue organizing similar events regularly.
Following the competition, local dignitaries and association members distributed prizes to the winners.
