Bangladeshi film actress Pori Moni has reacted humorously after Argentina lost the FIFA World Cup final, saying she no longer has to fulfill her lighthearted promise to get married if the team won the tournament.
In a Facebook post shared early Monday, Pori Moni wrote, "Looks like I don't have to get married after all. My beloved Argentina, we'll meet again."
The post came after Argentina suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final, ending the actress's playful pledge made before the tournament's decisive match.
Ahead of the semifinal between Argentina and England, Pori Moni had posted on Facebook that she would "get married again" if Argentina won the World Cup. The remark quickly went viral on social media and generated widespread public discussion.
Speaking to local media, the actress said the post was intended as a joke but admitted she was surprised by the public reaction.
"I've never announced a marriage in advance," she said. "I've fallen in love and gotten married unexpectedly before. This time I announced it, and now I'm in trouble. I never imagined people would take it so seriously. I'm receiving so many serious marriage proposals that I don't know what to do."
While describing the post as humorous, Pori Moni did not completely dismiss the possibility of marriage in the future.
Spain secured its second FIFA World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final, ending a 16-year wait for the championship.
