A 25-year-old Chhatra Dal leader, Rezwan Amin Sifat, was brutally hacked to death in front of his home in Bhola Sadar Upazila on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred as he was preparing to travel to Dhaka to attend the reception for BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Sifat was the son of Alauddin Hawlader and a resident of the Rajapur Union. At approximately 7:00 pm, Sifat was intercepted by a group of 5–6 individuals, allegedly led by his cousin, Hasib. He was attacked with sharp weapons and stones, leading to fatal injuries and excessive bleeding. He was declared dead upon arrival at Bhola Sadar Hospital.
The victim's father alleged the murder was the result of a long-standing land dispute with his brother, former UP member Helal Hawlader. The family claims they have faced years of harassment due to Helal's previous political influence.
Bhola Sadar Model Police Station has confirmed that a team was sent to the scene and the body was examined at the hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam stated that police drives are currently underway to arrest the suspects involved in the killing.
