Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami urged the interim government on Tuesday to conduct the referendum regarding the July Charter by November and to facilitate parliamentary elections in February of the following year.
This request was articulated during a meeting of the party's Central Executive Council, presided over by Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman this evening, as reported by BSS.
In the session, which included members of the Central Executive Council, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the significant results of his recent international trips and acknowledged their beneficial effects on the country and its people.
The Council expressed apprehension regarding the government's procrastination in legally implementing the July Charter and cautioned that scheduling the referendum and the national election on the same day could jeopardize both the process and the importance of the referendum. "If voting at any polling station for the general election is halted, it could also postpone the referendum, which is intolerable," the Council remarked.
Jamaat called upon the interim government to promptly issue the order for the July Charter's implementation and insisted that parliamentary elections should occur in February, contingent upon the referendum's results.
Additionally, the Council advocated for the installation of CCTV cameras at all polling stations to guarantee elections that are free, fair, and transparent.
