Mahfuz Alam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the interim government, is likely to contest the upcoming national election from the Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency, according to his elder brother Mahbub Alam.
Mahbub Alam, who serves as the Joint Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and an adviser on information affairs, made the announcement while addressing an NCP coordination meeting and courtyard gathering held on Friday afternoon in front of the Ichhapur Union Parishad office in Ramganj.
In his speech, Mahbub Alam said that Ramganj has seen little to no development over the past 17 years, and that local infrastructure has severely deteriorated. He added that people’s freedom of speech had been suppressed, but since the political change on August 5, citizens have regained their right to express opinions freely.
“Ramganj and Ichhapur Union should take pride that one of our own, Adviser Mahfuz Alam, represents us at the national level,” Mahbub said. “If he steps down from his advisory position, he may run in the next parliamentary election from this constituency.”
He further stated that the August 5 political shift marked the end of old political vendettas, pledging that future politics would focus on eliminating corruption, terrorism, and drug abuse.
The event was presided over by Masum Billah, Convener of NCP Ramganj Upazila, and conducted by Joint Member Secretary Mahmudun Nabi Titu. Among others, Arif Sohel (NCP member), Dr. Ismail (President, Islami Andolon Union Unit), and student leaders Ismail Rafi and Naim Salehin also spoke at the gathering.
