No party or group will get away with misdeeds. The results of the operation will be published in the media, so that the miscreants do not have a chance to be encouraged. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah said these things at a view-sharing meeting held at the Chattogram Circuit House on Tuesday (January 6).
He also mentioned that the security of minority communities must be specially monitored during the elections, because some vested interests have used them during elections in the past. The EC said that it is very important to organize the elections in a festive and legal environment. The circulation of weapons and the influence of terrorists around the elections must also be monitored. He said that although an estimated 85% of the weapons were recovered after the July coup, about 15% of the weapons are still in the field. 70-75% of the lost ammunition has been recovered, the rest is still out of the search.
He also mentioned the need for Rohingya camps and border control. Without strict control over the movement of Rohingyas, security could be disrupted, especially if weapons from across the border could enter the camps.
The meeting was attended by Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Ziauddin, Chattogram Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah and District Superintendent of Police Nazir Ahmed Khan.
