A parliamentary meeting of the government party has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, ahead of the first session of the 13th National Parliament, which begins on March 12. The meeting will take place at 11 am in the government party meeting room at the National Parliament House and will be presided over by Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The National Parliament Secretariat confirmed the meeting in a press release on Monday, March 9. The ruling party Bangladesh Nationalist Party is expected to discuss key policy decisions during this meeting, held just before the parliamentary session.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam has requested all government MPs to attend. The agenda is expected to cover the party’s strategy for the upcoming session, distribution of responsibilities to new MPs, and the introduction of bills.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also provide guidance to MPs to ensure smooth parliamentary proceedings. Political analysts note the meeting is significant, as it is the first formal party gathering before the 13th National Parliament session and the first after Tarique Rahman was elected parliament leader.
Traditionally, government and opposition parties hold separate pre-session meetings to set their strategies. While the detailed agenda has not been publicly disclosed, party sources say MPs are treating the meeting as highly important.
The parliament leader has emphasized measures to strengthen parliamentary democracy, and Wednesday’s meeting may include instructions to ensure MPs’ active participation and proper conduct during sessions.
The BNP parliamentary party meeting comes at a politically sensitive time, with national attention on the new parliamentary session. The meeting on Wednesday at 11 am is expected to clarify the ruling party’s position in the first session of the 13th National Parliament.
