At least 18 people have been killed and over 360 others wounded in military clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan since October 10, according to a statement released Thursday by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
The UN mission expressed deep concern over the rising civilian toll and urged both sides to immediately de-escalate tensions. “UNAMA calls on all parties to bring a lasting end to hostilities to protect civilians,” the statement read.
Cross-border shelling and airstrikes have intensified along the volatile frontier over the past week, prompting fears of a broader regional conflict. The clashes come amid deteriorating relations between Islamabad and Kabul, largely centered around security concerns and militant activities near the border.
UN officials reiterated the importance of dialogue and restraint, warning that continued violence risks worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.
