A New Year’s celebration at the popular "Le Constellation" bar in the Swiss Alps turned into a catastrophe as a massive fire left dozens presumed dead and approximately 100 people injured.
Police Commander Frédéric Gisler confirmed that many of the injured are in serious condition, with regional hospitals and intensive care units reaching full capacity.
Firefighters described the event as an "embrasement généralisé" (flashover), where combustible gases ignited violently, engulfing the structure instantly.
While an official investigation is pending, Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud has ruled out an attack. Interestingly, the municipality had already banned fireworks due to a month-long drought.
The disaster occurred in Crans-Montana, a premier resort area known for World Cup skiing and international golf, located 40km north of the Matterhorn.
The victims include both locals and international tourists. Authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution as medical resources are currently overwhelmed.
This tragedy comes as the resort prepares to host major Olympic qualifying events and the 2027 World Championships.
