To protect the environment and combat the adverse effects of climate change, a tree plantation program was inaugurated Saturday afternoon at Dhalar Mor in Faridpur's Dikrichar Union, an area surrounded by the Padma River.
Deputy Commissioner Mazharul Islam launched the initiative as the chief guest. Participants planted various fruit and timber saplings and encouraged local residents to plant and nurture more trees in their communities.
"There is no alternative to planting trees to protect the environment and build a livable Bangladesh for future generations," DC Mazharul Islam said in his inaugural address. He noted that widespread greening is a priority, and if every citizen plants and cares for at least one tree, the country can significantly mitigate climate change risks.
Agriculture Officer Anwar Hossain emphasized the need for planned planting and regular maintenance. "Fruit and forest trees do more than maintain environmental balance; they play a vital role in human nutrition, economic development, and biodiversity conservation," he added.
The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sohrab Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Meshkatul Jannat Rabeya, Forester Zahid Hossain, alongside local UP members, community leaders, and dignitaries.
