Tk 13 Crore Gold Seized at Darshana Border 1 Arrested

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 39 gold bars worth approximately Tk 13 crore and arrested an alleged smuggler at the Darshana border in Chuadanga on Saturday evening.

Acting on intelligence reports of a major cross-border smuggling attempt BGB personnel intensified border surveillance in the Damurhuda upazila area. They intercepted a motorcycle resulting in the detention of 34-year-old Rabiul Islam of Chhoygharia village.

A subsequent search of the suspect uncovered the 39 gold bars. Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan Commanding Officer of BGB-6 Chuadanga confirmed the operation in a press release. He stated that during preliminary questioning, Islam admitted he was attempting to smuggle the gold into India. The suspect has been handed over to the Darshana Police Station for legal action. Meanwhile the seized gold will be deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury Office in accordance with standard government regulations.

This latest seizure highlights the BGB's continuous efforts to combat gold smuggling along the Bangladesh-India border.
