The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized two wooden boats carrying allegedly smuggled mineral coal and wheat bran during an operation in Patenga, Chattogram.

The operation was conducted Friday (July 31) near Jetty No. 15 by the Coast Guard’s Patenga outpost, following a tip-off.

According to the Coast Guard, personnel searched the two wooden boats and recovered one tonne of mineral coal and 600 kilograms of wheat bran, with an estimated combined value of around Tk 206,000. The two boats allegedly used for smuggling were also seized.

However, the suspected smugglers fled after noticing the Coast Guard operation. No one was arrested.

Lieutenant Commander Suman Al Mukit, media officer of the Coast Guard’s East Zone, said legal proceedings regarding the seized goods and boats are underway.

He added that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue regular operations to prevent smuggling along the country’s coastal areas.
