Three Arrested in Bangladesh After 15-Year-Old Girl Abducted and Group Raped

Police in Sadarpur, Faridpur, have arrested three suspects after an eighth-grade girl was abducted from her home and gang-raped late Thursday night, sparking widespread anger across the region.

The 15-year-old victim is currently receiving treatment at the gynecology ward of Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

According to family members and local authorities, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. Friday in Bhasanchar Union. The victim was at home with her younger siblings while her mother and uncle were at a local hospital.

Witnesses said an armed group of 8 to 10 men surrounded the house. When the family refused to open the door, the attackers broke a window, pulled the teenager out by her hair, and forced her onto a motorcycle. She was taken to a nearby pond, where three men raped her.

At around 3:00 a.m., the attackers dropped the severely injured victim back in her yard. Local residents chased the perpetrators, capturing Helal Mridha, 20, and Rois Shikdar, 16, along with a motorcycle, and handed them over to the police. Officers later arrested a third suspect, 17-year-old Roni Bepari.

"We have filed a case, sent two suspects to jail via court order, and arrested a third," said Sadarpur Police Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Al Mamun Shah. "Operations are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects."

Shahidul Islam Babul, a member of parliament representing the Faridpur-4 constituency, visited the victim’s family on Saturday. He demanded a swift and thorough investigation.

"Whoever committed this crime must face exemplary punishment," Babul said. "There will be no forgiveness."

Local residents and community leaders described the suspects as part of a local juvenile gang involved in drug abuse, gambling, and long-standing harassment of the victim. Bhasanchar Union Parishad Chairman Sheikh Golam Kawsar confirmed that preliminary investigations support the allegations against the gang.

The victim’s mother, Laki Akhtar, expressed heartbreak over the attack and demanded maximum punishment for all involved.

Community members continue to demand the immediate arrest of the remaining suspects to prevent similar crimes in the future.
