Attempt to Grab Land in Monohardi, Family Files Police Complaint

A 60-year-old man in Monohardi Upazila of Narsingdi has filed a written complaint with police, alleging that a group of people attempted to forcibly occupy his wife’s ancestral and purchased land and threatened his family with death.

The complainant, Md. Manjurul Haque, a resident of Hafizpur village, filed the complaint with Monohardi Police Station against six named individuals and three to four unidentified people.

The accused have been identified as Kazi Saidul Islam Rony, 35; Kazi Jalal Uddin, 62; Kazi Zahirul Islam, 38; Kazi Ashraful Alam Raton, 46; Kazi Awlad Hossain, 29; and three to four unidentified persons. They are residents of Naluha Kazibari in Chandanbari Union of Monohardi.

According to the complaint, the accused are relatives of the complainant’s wife, Lutfun Nahar. The family has been involved in a long-running dispute over her ancestral and purchased property.

Manjurul Haque said his wife legally purchased part of the disputed property from Kazi Enamul Haque, brother of the second accused, through a registered deed. He also claimed that she has been in peaceful possession of the inherited portion of the land for years.

However, the accused allegedly have been attempting to take control of the property by using their influence and taking advantage of the family’s absence.

The complainant said several arbitration meetings were held with the involvement of local community leaders to settle the dispute. According to him, the documents were reviewed during the arbitration process and the decision went in favor of his wife as the rightful owner.

The accused, however, allegedly rejected the decision and continued trying to occupy the land.

Manjurul Haque also alleged that the accused repeatedly threatened him and his family members with death in public. He further claimed that the first accused, who is a police officer, has been using his position and influence to intimidate the family.

According to the complaint, at around 4:30pm on July 31, 2026, Manjurul Haque, his wife and other family members went to the disputed property in Naluha Chok Mouza under Monohardi Police Station.

The accused allegedly appeared at the site and prevented them from entering the property. They allegedly used abusive language and approached the family members carrying a machete, spade and other locally available weapons.

Fearing for their safety, Manjurul Haque and his family members left the area, the complaint states.

The complainant further alleged that the accused chased them after they left and threatened to kill them and bury their bodies if they returned to the property. They also allegedly said they would not accept any arbitration or settlement.

Manjurul Haque said he became concerned that the situation could lead to an attempt to seize the property and cause a serious deterioration of law and order in the area. After consulting family members and local community leaders, he decided to file the written complaint with police.

Monohardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Jahangir Badsha confirmed receiving the complaint.

“We have received the complaint. Necessary action will be taken after investigation,” he said.

No statement could be obtained from the accused regarding the allegations. Attempts to contact them by phone were also unsuccessful.

Police said the complaint is being investigated and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
