Police have arrested a 26-year-old man with 7 grams of cannabis during a special anti-drug operation in Paikgachha, Khulna. A mobile court later sentenced him to one month of non-rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
The arrested man was identified as Iqbal Hossain, son of Jobed Ali Sheikh of Harikhali area in Soladana Union.
Police conducted the raid at a tea stall owned by Iqbal's brother in Harikhali on Thursday night and recovered 7 grams of cannabis from Iqbal, according to police.
Police alleged that Iqbal had been involved in selling drugs in the area for a long time.
Paikgachha Police Station Sub-Inspector Tushar Raihan said the operation was conducted based on confidential information as part of a special anti-drug drive. Iqbal was detained with the cannabis and produced before a mobile court on Friday morning.
The court subsequently sentenced him to one month of non-rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
