A seven-year-old boy tragically drowned in a pond in Lama upazila of Bandarban on Friday afternoon.
The deceased identified as Nahid(7) was the son of Sumon and Nuru Banu from Bazar Para in Ward No. 5 of Rupsipara Union. According to local sources the young boy worked at a shop in Rupsipara Bazar and was home alone while his parents were away at their respective jobs.
Family and local sources reported that Nahid accidentally slipped into a pond near his residence unnoticed. After he remained missing for an extended period the locals initiated a search and eventually found him floating in the water.
He was immediately recovered and rushed to the Lama Upazila Health Complex. However attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
The sudden and tragic death of the young child has left his family devastated and cast a deep shadow of grief over the local community.
