State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has praised the discipline and quality of education at Nunarbil Government Model Primary School in Lama, Bandarban, saying similar standards across the country would significantly improve Bangladesh’s primary education sector.

The State Minister made the remarks during visits to several educational institutions in Lama Upazila on Monday (May 11). He also instructed officials concerned to pay greater attention to teaching quality and student attendance, especially in remote areas.

Bobby Hajjaj arrived at the Lama Upazila Parishad around 9:00am, where he was welcomed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Moin Uddin. He later joined a meeting with local government officials.

At around 10:00am, the State Minister visited Nunarbil Government Model Primary School, a well-known educational institution in the area. During the visit, he spent time with pre-primary students, listened to cultural performances, and reviewed classroom activities and examination records. He also spoke with parents and teachers.

Impressed by the school’s overall environment and discipline, the minister stayed at the institution for nearly an hour.

Later, at about 11:00am, he visited Anghalari Para Government Primary School in Phansiakhali Union. There, he urged teachers to work more sincerely to improve education standards in remote communities and strengthen academic activities.

After concluding his visit to Lama around 11:30am, the minister travelled to Bandarban district headquarters, where he visited the Reisha Primary Teachers’ Training Institute (PTI) and attended a discussion meeting.

During the tour, the State Minister was accompanied by his Private Secretary Md. Iqbal Hasan, Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education Md. Nurul Islam, Acting District Primary Education Officer Parinoy Chakma, Upazila Education Officer Debashish Biswas, Lama Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal, former mayor Amir Hossain, and other senior officials.

Meanwhile, journalists from neighbouring Alikadam Upazila submitted a written complaint to the minister regarding several problems in primary education, including allegations of teacher absenteeism at three schools nationalised under a UNDP project.

Taking the matter seriously, the State Minister immediately summoned the Alikadam Education Officer to Bandarban and assured that prompt action would be taken.
