Two Associates of Criminal David Emon Arrested with Firearm in Chattogram

Police have arrested two close associates of notorious criminal David Emon with seizing a foreign-made pistol and ammunition in Chattogram city.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid near the Wajedia playground on Oxygen-Quaish Road under the Bayezid Bostami police station on Sunday night. During the operation, officers apprehended the two suspects as they attempted to flee and recovered the illegal firearm.

The arrestees were identified as Md. Asif (25) of the Tannery Battal area and Saidul Islam alias Arif (24) of Aman Bazar.

During a press briefing on Monday, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed stated that the raid was specifically initiated to capture Asif had an active court warrant against him. During preliminary interrogation, both men confessed to operating as associates for David Emon.

Police records reveal that Asif is a habitual offender with 11 previous cases filed against him also charges for attempted murder, extortion, violations of the Arms Act and preparation for robbery. His accomplice, Arif faces two existing extortion cases.

Authorities have filed a fresh case against the duo under the Arms Act following Sunday's weapon seizure.
