


Kazi Mohammad Jamirul Islam Momtaz has been awarded the "Nelson Mandela Peace Award-2026" by the International Human Rights Society, Bangladesh Chapter in recognition of his contributions to human rights, justice and social harmony.
According to the award citation, Momtaz was honored for his long-standing dedication and honesty as a Kazi and Nikah Registrar along with his broader social welfare work.
Momtaz currently serves as the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registrar (Kazi) of Joykals Union in Shantiganj Upazila, Sunamganj. He also chairs the managing committee of Damodhartap Mahmudpur Dakhil Madrasa and serves as General Secretary of the Shantiganj Abdul Majid Jame Mosque Committee alongside his efforts to promote social harmony and justice.
The award was presented on July 18 at a ceremony in Dhaka's Hotel Ornate with the certificate signed by the Society's president, freedom fighter Dr. T. M. Momtazul Karim and advisor Justice Md. Siddiqur Rahman Mia.
Responding to the honor, Momtaz said the recognition would inspire him to continue serving the public with greater dedication and responsibility with expressing gratitude to the organizers.
This is not Momtaz's first accolade. He previously received the May Day Memorial Award-2026 from the Bangladesh Human Rights Monitoring Forum, the Independence Memorial Award-2024 and the Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Award-2021 among others. He also won first place in the Open Category at the Shantiganj Upazila Youth Festival-2025 and has been recognized for his role in preventing child marriage through his work with FIVDB and PKSF.
