The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has temporarily suspended Dr. Md. Kamal Hossain Mufti, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Morelganj in Bagerhat over allegations of gross negligence and mismanagement.

The suspension comes just two days after the Health Minister conducted a surprise inspection of the Morelganj Upazila Health Complex. According to an official notification issued on July 26 by Ministry Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman which was made public on Monday, the minister uncovered severe administrative failures during his visit. These included widespread irregularities, corruption, abandoned infrastructure and expired medicines discarded in the hospital toilets.

The ministry stated that these severe lapses have severely tarnished the reputation of local public healthcare services. Consequently, a departmental case has been filed against Dr. Mufti. His temporary suspension was ordered to ensure an impartial investigation and prevent any undue influence over the proceedings.

In response to the disciplinary action, Dr. Mufti acknowledged the situation. "I bear the responsibility for the shortcomings the Honorable Minister observed during his visit. Therefore, the authorities have temporarily suspended me" he stated. "I am hopeful that the complete truth will emerge through the investigation."
