Three Get Death Penalty in Faridpur Vendor Murder Case

A Faridpur court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for the 2012 murder of vegetable vendor Faisal Sheikh 22. Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Badiuzzaman delivered the verdict at noon.

The convicted are Chan Sardar, 42 and Tara Sardar 35, sons of Ayub Ali Sardar from West Khabaspur, Faridpur and Babul Akand, 36, son of Ziaul Haque Akand. Babul Akand was present in court and was sent to jail after the verdict. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two absconding Sardar brothers.

According to case details, Faisal Sheikh was hacked and beaten in an under-construction building at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on September 5, 2012. He died en route to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being rescued in critical condition. His mother, Firoza Begum, filed a case the next day at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, naming Chan Sardar, Tara Sardar and Shahin Sardar.

Court records show Faisal sold vegetables near Haji Shariatullah Bazar, where Chan Sardar also worked as a laborer. The two had reportedly argued earlier due to Faisal's mental health condition. On the day of the murder, Chan Sardar lured Faisal to the construction site where other accused attacked him with weapons.

Investigating officer Md. Shahjahan Mia filed a charge sheet in 2013 naming four accused including Babul Akand. A fifth accused, Shahin Sardar died during the trial and was excluded from the case.

Public Prosecutor Chowdhury Zahid Hasan said the prosecution proved the murder beyond doubt through lengthy hearings and testimony, resulting in the death sentences for the three convicts.
