


Two separate courts in Tangail sentenced two individuals to death on Wednesday for their involvement in distinct murder cases also acquitting two others.
In the first verdict, Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman sentenced Nazirul Islam Jihad to death and fined him Tk 1 lakh. Jihad a resident of Garabari village in Bhuiyanpur upazila was convicted of murdering Mehedi Mostafa Rajib on June 18, 2020, following a violent dispute over a mango orchard. The court reached its decision after recording testimonies from 15 witnesses.
In the second ruling, Judge Dilara Alo Chandrana of the Special Judge Court handed the death penalty to Sohrab Hossain hailing from Barni village in Delduar upazila. Hossain was found guilty of the double murder of Hazera Begum and her daughter Nasrin Akhter were strangled to death in Dakshinpara village on May 5, 2021.
Two other co-accused in the double murder case were acquitted as the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.
Both verdicts were delivered on Wednesday afternoon following lengthy legal proceedings and thorough reviews of the evidence by the respective courts.
