15-Year-Old Schoolgirl Saved from Child Marriage in Monohardi

The drive was conducted by Md. Sajeb Mia, Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner(Land), Monohardi, Narsingdi.

A 15-year-old 9th-grade schoolgirl was saved from child marriage following a raid in Monohardi, Narsingdi. The drive was conducted between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM on Friday, August 21 in Lakhpur Eastpara area under Chandanbari Union of the upazila.

After receiving information about the child marriage locally and administration officials went to the spot and confirmed the matter. Later all formalities of the marriage between teenager Sumaiya 15, daughter of Dulal Mia and Raihan Mia of Charamandalia area were stopped.

At the time the girl’s family was made to sign a written undertaking that she would not be married off before she turns 18. The teenager was also advised to continue her studies.

The raid was conducted by Md. Sajeb Mia the Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner(Land), Monohardi, Narsingdi. Officers from the Department of Women Affairs, staff members and members of Monohardi Police Station were also present during the operation.
