Monohardi Canal Project Completed; Tk 47.66 Lakh Returned to Treasury

The Monohardi Upazila Administration has completed the excavation and re-excavation of two canals under the Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP) for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

The project was completed within the scheduled timeframe, while Tk 47,65,996 of the allocated funds was returned to the government treasury, according to the upazila administration.

Under the project, 3.72 kilometers of the Mohishakhali and Gangajali canals were re-excavated. This included 1.62 kilometers of Mohishakhali Canal and 2.10 kilometers of Gangajali Canal.

Officials said the work is expected to help reduce waterlogging, improve irrigation, support agricultural production and contribute to environmental conservation in the area.

The government allocated Tk 95,87,033 for the project. After completing the work, the administration reported savings of Tk 47,65,996, or nearly half of the original allocation.

The project completion report has been submitted to the relevant authorities in accordance with instructions from the Department of Disaster Management.

Badrul Islam Molla (Babul), an assistant teacher at Monohardi Government Model Pilot High School, praised the initiative, saying that the completion of quality work within budget and the return of unused funds was commendable.

Monohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. A. Muhaimin Al Jihan attributed the project's completion to cooperation among government agencies, field-level supervision and planned management.

“Our main goal was to ensure maximum public benefit while maintaining the required standards and ensuring proper use of government funds,” he said.

He added that the remaining funds had been returned to the government treasury after the project was completed.
